Black Star

Sex-linked chicks are chicks that are bred with a Rhode Island Red Rooster and a barred hen. Doing so will provide a chick that is able to be sexed at hatching. This makes it easy for hatcheries to offer sexed chicks. The males have white spots on their heads and the females are solid black. 

At our hatchery we our barred hen is a Cuckoo Maran which lays dark brown eggs. This hybrid chicken variety tends to be very hardy and has great egg production. We love the black star and think they would be a great dark brown layer to add to your flock.

We hope to also offer cuckoo Maran pure bred chickens next year!
